In the fire of the liberation
September 2004 it’s exactly 60 years ago the liberation of the South of the Netherlands began. In the history of this part of this country the period September 1944- May 1945 is very remarkable. Partly these Southern provinces were liberated, partly those were in war conditions and cut off from the rest of The Netherlands. This documentary is about this period, in which the Southern provinces occupied an exeptional position compared to the rest of The Netherlands. This story is told by seven people, all eyewitnesses. In a moving way they tell about this turbulent period in history which has left deep traces in their lives up till now. Their stories are mixed with some unique archive material which pull the viewer into their memories.
The documentary has been produced by Zuidenwind Filmproductions in cooperation with Dutch broadcaster NOS.
The documentary was shown on Dutch Public TV during the National Programm on Liberation Day, May 5th 2005
