The Noble Outsiders is a documentary about a rather infamous Dutch family. The family members are stubborn and passionate, and most have a laborious relationship with smug society. Through developing their musical and trading talents they succeeded in escaping the poverty, which was prevalent in the poor districts of the Dutch town Roermond until the mid 20th century.

The life of the Fermonts is closely interwoven with the contra-culture, which evolves within the history of middle classes in those days and gives expression to the difficult integration of common families all of which took about one and a half century to take place. This subject is shown, together with the Fermonts own stories, images, emotions and passions. The Fermonts have a direct, pure life style full of joy and pleasure, anger and sadness right at the surface of things.

The film will be broadcast on Dutch television (AVRO) on August 3rd, 2005.
